Qld looks to the UK for skilled migrants

TWO key skilled migration events in Europe and the United Kingdom have been targeted by the Queensland Government to attract skilled workers to the state.
Last month's Emigration Fair 2008 in Utrecht and the Australia Needs Skills expo in London were recruitment frontlines as developed countries around the globe continue to feel the skills squeeze.
Tourism, Regional Development and Industry Minister Desley Boyle said attracting more skilled workers was crucial to Queensland's continued economic development.
"Everyone in Australia has already woken up to our well kept secret - now it's time for people from the UK and Europe to learn why Queensland is simply the best place to live down under," Mrs Boyle said.
"Queensland is a great place to work, live and play. Our message to intending skilled migrants in Europe and the UK is simple: move to Queensland, everyone else is!
"We've got the best climate, the best lifestyle, an abundance of natural resources and a cultural vibrancy on par with the rest the world.
"The proof is in the pudding: more Australians move to Queensland each year than any other state."
Mrs Boyle said there were thousands of jobs available across a wide range of professions.
"If you're an engineer, heath worker, scientist or designer - Queensland really is the best place in Australia to fast-track your career," she said.
Mrs Boyle was quick to point out the many opportunities in regional Queensland with boom industries desperate to get skilled people of all levels and professions.
"Many of our regional employers can provide very flexible work arrangements to accommodate all kinds of lifestyles," Mrs Boyle said.
"Our regions are also places of amazing natural beauty. From the iconic vibrant red of the Outback to the rainbow underwater paradise of the Great Barrier Reef - there is certainly never a dull moment living in Queensland."
