Queensland joins STNI scheme
QUEENSLAND has, as of October 23, 2007, joined the State and Territory
Nominated Independent Skilled visa programme (STNI). This means that
now every State and Territory participates in the scheme.
This particular programme allows each State and Territory to nominate
certain occupations that are in demand in their respective area, if a
person has these skills then the State or Territory will consider
sponsoring for migration.
The big advantage is that the point's score required for this stream is
only 100. When you consider that sponsorship under this programme also
entitles you to a further 10 points, anyone with a score of 90 points
will qualify, provided their occupation is listed by the State or
Territory.
One of the requirements for sponsorship under this programme is that
you acknowledge that you will remain living and working in that State
or Territory for two years after your visa is granted.
When this visa programme was first introduced many years ago there were
only three States participating being Victoria, Tasmania and South
Australia. Since that time other States and the Territories have joined
the scheme.
It is a programme that can really assist some who would not normally
obtain sufficient points. A word of warning to those that participate
in many of the online instant assessment tests, many of these do not
take the STNI programme into account.
In recent months many of the States like South Australia, which had
quite a large number of occupations on their list, have now reduced the
number of occupations considerably meaning that the programme has
obviously worked well for them. |
