Survey will check on Perth skill shortages
THE West Australian Government is conducting a survey of Western
Australian businesses to find out which skills are in demand across the
Perth metropolitan area.
Small Business Minister Margaret Quirk said the survey would be
conducted by the Small Business Development Corporation (SBDC) in
conjunction with the Federal Department of Employment and Workplace
Relations (DEWR).
The survey results would assist in establishing where the greatest
needs lay for training and recruitment, as well as skilled migration.
"Western Australia's strong economic climate has created some
challenges for small businesses in attracting and recruiting skilled
staff," Ms Quirk said.
"The State's strong growth and record low unemployment levels have made
the labour market tighter than we have seen for many years."
The survey, which only takes five minutes, will be conducted over the
next few weeks, with staff from the SBDC and DEWR contacting local
business operators to ask about their recent recruiting experiences.
The Minister said the information received would be confidential and
used only to develop strategies to address training and recruitment
issues identified as being of concern.
"It is very important that our training and skills migration efforts
are directed in the most appropriate way to meet today's challenges,"
she said.
"We encourage those businesses contacted by our survey team to be
candid in their responses, to ensure we have the best information on
which to base our policies and strategies to increase Western
Australia's skilled workforce." |
