New Chief Minister for NT
THE Northern Territory's new Chief Minister, Paul Henderson, said he is
committed to working with Territorians to keep the Territory the best
place to live.
"The Northern Territory is the best place in the world to live, work
and raise a family, and I am passionate about it keeping that way and
making it even better," Mr Henderson said.
"As Chief Minister my agenda will be focused on economic development, jobs, a safer community, and better health and education.
"Above all, I will be focused on the needs of Territory families."
Mr Henderson said an immediate priority is to rebuild the Northern Territory's relationship with Canberra.
"The change in Federal Government brings new opportunities for the
Northern Territory, and I am committed to a forward thinking
relationship based on collaboration and respect," said Mr Henderson.
"To lead this new relationship, I will be taking on responsibility for the new portfolio of Territory-Federal Relations.
"The Commonwealth has the resources we need to tackle our enormous
challenges, and we can not continue to be side tracked from our goals,
particularly of better education and job opportunities for Indigenous
Territorians."
Mr Henderson has paid tribute to former Chief Minister Clare Martin and Deputy Chief Minister Syd Stirling.
"By 2001, former CLP administrations had left the Territory with an
economy on its knees, and today the Territory is bucking national
trends with strong economic and job growth rate," he said. "I will
continue to work to build on this strong economy with fiscal
responsibility for the benefit of all Territorians.
"Territorians have the chance to enjoy the best of life - a vibrant,
multicultural community, abundant natural beauty and resources, and
part of the world's longest surviving culture dating back more than
60 000 years.
"These things make the Territory special, and we need to work together to keep it special as we tackle the challenges of today.
"I look forward to working with my fellow Territorians to make the Territory even better." |
