New voice for the young A CALL has gone out to young Australians to help shape the new forum that will allow them to participate in government policy development and decision making.Australia's Minister for Youth, Kate Ellis, has invited young people to submit their ideas and thoughts on the development of the new Australian Youth Forum. Ms Ellis said the Forum would deliver on an election commitment to replace the National Youth Roundtable. "The Australian Youth Forum will give young Australians a strong voice in Government," Ms Ellis said. "It will be broader in scope than the current Roundtable and improve communication between government and Australia's youth. "The Government is committed to listening to the voice of young people and responding to it. "I want the new Forum to build on the National Youth Roundtable and better serve the needs of young people and the sector," Ms Ellis said. In addition to canvassing feedback from members of the youth sector including stakeholder and advocacy groups, a series of public consultations will be held. Ms Ellis released a discussion paper which will form the basis for the consultations. The paper is available at http://www.thesource.gov.au/ "Public consultations are open to all interested people and organisations. Flexible options, including online consultation, will allow everyone to have their say," Ms Ellis said. The consultation period for ideas and submissions on the new Australian Youth Forum and current youth issues closes May 30, 2008. |
