UK vehicle orders to boost Adelaide

ADELAIDE could gain many more automotive and allied jobs with the news that Holden's Monaro muscle car is to be exported to Britain from early next year.
It could also be followed by the Commodore, another Holden product, made in Adelaide.
The deal to add Britain to Monaro's expanding global exports, which already includes the US and the Middle East, has been approved by General Motors for start up in the first quarter of next year.
The further expansion to Holden's overseas sales has been made possible by the start-up of the third shift at Elizabeth which has boosted daily production from 620 to 780 vehicles a day.
Announcing the British export deal, Holden chairman and managing director Peter Hanenberger said several hundred Monaros would be exported to Britain to test demand.
"But from the interest we have monitored from driving enthusiasts who have read about Monaro and have registered keen interest, sales in the UK could come in at worthwhile numbers," he said.
"The business plan to send Commodore to the UK is yet to be confirmed.
"Holden is a well-known badge in Britain due to sales of Holden Special Vehicles," he said.
Kevin Wale, chief executive of GM's British affiliate Vauxhall, has had the Monaro and Commodore on his wishlist for some time.
