Top employers are named

WITH high demand for skilled workers showing no signs of easing, debate is strong on the hottest employers.
An employment branding survey has named the nation's 10 hottest employers. The government/public sector is tops, followed by ANZ, Virgin, Telstra and Westpac.
The survey of more than 600 jobseekers by specialist recruiter Hays reveals most people look for career opportunities, a company's reputation and the professional development and training offered in deciding who they want to work for.
Salary or benefits are not viewed with nearly as much importance.
Hays director Jacky carter said employers had to be smarter about retention strategies as the labour market continued to tighten.
"Forward-looking employers are focusing on what needs to be done to attract talent," she said.
"When an engineer considers future employers, a certain firm instantaneously comes to mind.
"When an accountant seeks a move, certain companies are approached before others.
"This is the power of employment branding."
IBM, optus, Microsoft, Vodafone and Price waterhouse Coopers rounded out the survey's Top 10. Other findings included:
* One-third of workers would resign from a company that did not live up to what was promised in the recruitment process or marketing.
* A Company's reputation as an employer was important in a candidate's decision to work for them in almost nine out of 10 cases.
