IF YOU are looking for adrenaline-pumping action, Rotorua is the
place to be.
The awesome natural setting provides thrills and adventure that will take you right to the brink.
Here you can run, slip and slide down the scree slope of an extinct volcano. Race along luge tracks down a mountain side - or take a more scenic route.
Throw yourself from bungy towers, Rotorua style. Hurl yourself down white water rapids by raft or sledge, and try out the highest commercially rafted waterfall in the southern hemisphere.
There are great forest trails for mountain biking or hiking - you'll see why Rotorua has become a mecca for mountain bikers. Take your chance to spy from the sky by helicopter, biplane, or floatplane - and maybe land on a dormant volcano - or an active one! Maybe even jump right out - try tandem skydiving!
Tumble head over heels down a hillside in the revolutionary Zorb, speed and spin in a jetboat. Try a safari through native forest and over rugged farmland, on horseback or by farm-bike.
Of course, you can take in more leisurely pursuits - but you'll be tempted. Rotorua's range of adventure activities offers something to meet all needs. Whether it's a little taste you're after, or full-on heart-pumping action - Rotorua is sure to challenge your spirit!
Lakes and fishing
Gaze across tranquil waters that fill the crater bowls of extinct volcanoes. Cruise, kayak, ski or sail on their shimmering surface.
Fish for trophy-winning trout in the lakes and the streams that feed them. Or ride the wild rapids and waterfalls along some of the more turbulent stretches.
Whatever your pleasure, Rotorua's stunning natural setting offers endless possibilities for relaxation, fun and adventure in, on and around our waterways.
Eleven major lakes sparkle in the landscape around Rotorua. The city of Rotorua nestles on the shore of the largest, Lake Rotorua. Their shapes have been formed and altered by cataclysmic volcanic activity in times past.
Many are steeped in Maori legend and history - you'll hear stories of phantom canoes seen gliding in the mist, and of lovers who swam the lakes to secretly meet upon their shores. The lakes are ringed by forest and farmland, but most are easily accessible to visitors.
And for the angler, the lakes and rivers teem with trout that will provide sport and thrills. Professional guides are available to reveal the best spots to you - and many will guarantee you a catch! In fact you're likely to find Rotorua is the easiest place in New Zealand to hook up a trout.
In Rotorua, you'll delight in our bounty of lakes, rivers and crystal springs.
