who had their application to emigrate to New Zealand
refused can appeal to the country's residence Review
Board, if they feel they have sufficient grounds.
The Residence Review Board has been established to
consider and decide appeals by unsuccessful applicants
for New Zealand residence visas or residence permits.
Before making a decision the board considers:
* the decision by the New Zealand Immigration Service
visa or immigration officer to refuse the residence
application;
* all information and submissions included by the
appellant with the appeal; and
* further information and submissions provided by the
appellant if permitted under section 18F of the
Immigration Act.
The Residence Appeal Authority has the following aims:
* to ensure the Residence Appeal Authority makes its
decisions promptly, correctly, consistently, clearly and
confidentially;
* to be an appeal body that at all times exercises its
decision-making functions independently from the New
Zealand Immigration Service;
* to be responsive and sensitive to the issues and values
of those with whom the Residence Appeal Authority deals;
* to support the ongoing quality improvement of the New
Zealand immigration determination process;
* to educate and inform individuals and organisations
involved in the New Zealand immigration determination
process.
