Airports tops
MAJOR
international airports in Australia will become mini-Cities in the next
few years, as more and more facilities are built around the terminals.
Brisbane’s international terminal is shortly due to be expanded,
while a major shopping centre has recently been built at the entrance
to the airport for use by city workers and local residents.
Future plans include an 18-hole golf course, hotels, more shopping and leisure facilities.
Perth's airport has recently been upgraded while a new airport has opened in Adelaide.
Sydney airport is planning a large shopping complex, massive multi-story car parks and office buildings.
Melbourne airport has both international and domestic terminals under
the one roof and has twice been named one or the best airports in the
world.
For Sydney passengers changing from domestic to international, or vice
versa, there is a bus service between the two terminals, but Brisbane
does not have this facility.
Its domestic and international terminals are two miles apart and are
linked by the airtrain service which continues into Brisbane and down
to the Gold Coast. But there is a bus to the city from both terminals,
while all airports have taxi services.
Smoking is not allowed on any night or train or bus service within
Australia and many airlines into and out of the country also restrict
smoking on flights.
Economy class passengers are allowed one piece of free baggage, up to
28kgs and a small cabin bag, plus personal items on domestic flights.
Security at all Australian airports has always been very tight and all
passengers have to he screened and knives and any sharp implements are
definitely not allowed on the aircrafts.
