Get away from it all in holiday paradise
ROBINSON
Crusoe eat your heart out! If you want to get away from it all on this
year's holiday and fancy exploring lesser known areas or simply want to
get back to nature, then pay a visit to the sunshine state of
Queensland in Australia.
With only 10 per cent of the population living outside of the urban
regions, there are plenty of uninhabited areas to explore. From the
reef and the rainforest to the stunning landscapes of the outback, just
sit, back and relax and enjoy your own slice of sun-drenched holiday
paradise of Queensland, Australia.
With 600 islands to choose from on the Great Barrier Reef, a private
beach is not difficult to find. There are plenty of little hideaways
where visitors can enjoy a private swim from a powdery white beach, or
snorkel in the warm, blue sea with no-one else around.
Bedarra Island, an exclusive hideaway off the far north Queensland
coast, has just 16 villas hidden in the rainforest, each with ocean
views from the balcony.
The beaches usually outnumber the visiting guests on Bedarra, so
heading off in a boat with a gourmet picnic hamper is highly
recommended for a very intimate and secluded day in the sun.
Or you can truly do the Robinson Crusoe thing and visit Wilson Island
in the beautiful Whitsunday Islands. This tiny coral cay sleeps just
six people in rustic beach suites and you are surrounded by the
breeding ground of rare turtles and birds.

Home to Ned Kelly and the world famous Waltzing Matilda song, an escape
to the Queensland Outback is a retreat in itself - a chance to escape
every day life and take in the real Australia.
With Queensland's dramatically beautiful Outback landscape, genuine
countrystyle hospitality, and unique outback retreats, this remote area
truly must not be missed. For something a little different, visit the
Tyrconnell Outback Experience and Historic Gold Mine just a short 150km
hop west of Cairns.
This 110 acre bush retreat was once home to 10,000 people panning for
gold when Tyrconnell was the most famous mine for the Hodgkinson Gold
Field 120 years ago.
Today, the 12 guests can soak up the sunsets, stars and serenity from
the balcony of a tin and timber cottages or camp at the ultimate bush
experience. Activities include panning for gold, horse riding, meeting
one of the indigenous traditional owners of the area or just taking
some time to gaze at the stars.

At 1200 square kilometres, the Daintree Rainforest in Northern
Queensland is the perfect place to get back to nature for a spot of
rest and relaxation. Don't be in a hurry to reach the Daintree, however
(the journey is an experience in itself) as after a spectacular two
hour drive, a ferry crossing over the Daintree River and negotiating
"cassowary bumps" guests finally arrive at Cape Tribulation, arguably
one of the most beautiful spots on earth.
The Coconut Beach Resort is located exactly where "the rainforest meets
the reef" at Cape Tribulation and resort is a natural retreat where
guests can truly escape to the most exquisite of natural surroundings
without sacrificing any modern comforts.
Try croc spotting on the Daintree, hiking through leayfy gorges or
diving on the reef, alternatively just kick back and relax and enjoy
the sights and sounds of the oldest rainforest on earth. |
