You
can do it - down under MOST
travellers in the UK can play out their dream holiday in
Australia and New Zealand with no worries and do just
what they have always wanted to do in both countries.
A total of 11 out of the 20 Dream Holidays in a recent
BBC survey in the UK can be had in either Australia or
New Zealand, with nine of them in the top ten wishes.
And 10 of the 11 can be done in beautiful New Zealand.
Odd one out was diving the Great Barrier Reef, off the
coast of Queensland, which came in second overall.
A dream of swimming with dolphins was top of the list and
this can easily be done off several Australian beaches,
with no danger.
In the top ten a total of eight can be done in Australia
and these included whale watching, dive with sharks (both
possible off several areas of the Australian coast), sky
diving, hot air ballooning, fly a fighter jet and go on
safari.
The two which had Australia/New Zealand stumped were both
due to geography - fly the Concorde London to New York
(you had better be quick) and see the Northern Lights.
But Queensland has its own mystery lights, the Min Min
lights, out in the State's central west.
But Australia came into its own with one of the Dream
Wishes - climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge (you can only
do this in Sydney - although you can also climb
Auckland's Bridge and you'll be able to climb Brisbane's
Story Bridge next year). This dream was rated 12 and
eight of Travel Australia's lucky readers will be able to
do just this shortly, when our BridgeClimb
competition is drawn.
So, just come on down to Down Under and make your holiday
dreams come true. And, of course, there's plenty more to
do in these two exciting countries than the Dream Wishes.
